Alison Yeung of Mary Ching hosted an evening of beauty, colour and elegance. Five fashion and accessories designers and a health & beauty company got together to showcase their latest additions for Spring. Mary Ching’s classic styles and her new Oriental Ballerina collection were on display to add a touch of glamour. Lova Weddings brought a splash of colour with their beautiful , all pure cotton scarves, not only as an attractive accessory but can be used in many practical ways. Estrelitzia presented a selection of products with digital printed designs ranging from children’s backpacks, cushions to greeting cards for all occasions. Marina Whelan’s jewelry and accessories made a bold and bright statement. The stones used in the designs are all natural and have been brought in from all around the world: malachite from Russia, amethysts from Korea and Lapis from Afghanistan are just some of the exotic jewelry on offer. For the environment and health conscious my LOHAS offered a wide selection of health and beauty products, they are all natural, environmentally friendly and cater for children as well as adults.

The Rosamonde Aviation Lounge, The Peninsula Shanghai
The Peninsula Shanghai celebrated the launch of their ‘Diploma of Management Studies’ in the Rosamonde Aviation Lounge. This new and exciting project is designed to assist ambitious, young people to further their careers not only in Shanghai but throughout China. The scheme gives Chinese hotel managers the unique opportunity to study part time and work at The Peninsula Shanghai. The project is a joint venture with The Peninsula Shanghai, the Institute of Hospitality UK and the Vocational Training Centre in Hong Kong.
Joseph Chong, General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai and a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality is the creator of this project. He has worked very closely with both institutes to ensure that the course is comprehensive both in theory and practice. In a speech, he gave thanks to all who have been involved and have contributed to the scheme. Professor Raymond Pine, Bsc, MPhil, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Hospitality, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, also a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality gave an inspiring speech on behalf of Philip Rossiter, Executive Director, Institute of Hospitality, UK.
Lecturers and students involved in the scheme were in attendance for the inauguration of the ‘Diploma of Management Studies’.

“Love in Melody III”, the third charity concert to be held at Bund 18 to raise funds for the Ailing Foundation. Shanghai Wakyo opened the concert with a Japanese Taiko Drum performance. Other artists included, Zhu Dan, one of China’s most promising artists, who gave a violin recital, Zhang Ju’s students performed Kunqu Opera and also the Bamboo Flutist, Mao Yulong performed. Zhang Ju, UNESCO designated Artist for Peace in 2011 and “Prince of the Kunqu Opera” gave a very moving performance of Kunqu Opera. The finale of Zhu Dan, Mao Yulong and Zhang Ju was spellbinding. During the evening Vana Teng, the organizer of the concert, gave a speech about the 3 charities that would benefit from the concert and a silent auction of artwork took place. Mrs Kitty Xia, Deputy Secretary-General and spokesperson for the Shanghai Charity Foundation, also gave a speech about the charities. The proceeds from the concert and silent auction will help fund 3 orphaned babies with surgery, help disadvantaged children in the Huangpu District and orphans of the Japanese earthquake in March last year.

Li Shoubai, and Joyce Shen, owners of Shoubai Art and their daughter Lucy, hosted a VIP Cocktail Party at Clouds Bar. They gave thanks and appreciation to their loyal customers and friends who have given them continual support in the past. Li Shoubai’s Heavy Colour Paintings adorned the walls depicting scenes of the old Shikuman life style. Speeches were made, a song was sung by Edmund He and Qin Lei amused the guests with impersonations of famous people. The evening was concluded by Lucy, on behalf of Shoubai Art, wishing everyone a very happy and successful 2011.

Rainer Burkle, General Manager of Ritz Carlton Pudong switched on their Christmas Tree Lights and started the countdown to Christmas by lighting the first box on the Advent Wall. “The Giving Tree” is decorated with small packets containing ‘wishes’ from the students of Zi Luo Lan Primary School. The packets can be purchased to fulfill the wishes of the children who will be presented with their gifts on the 21st December. The Dulwich School Choir delighted the guests with Christmas carols. Festive food and drinks were offered to one and all!!
Robert Wan Tahiti’s flagship store is now open on the 2nd floor of Bund 18. Robert Wan gave an opening speech followed by a piano recital from Xu Zhong. Guests were then invited up to the 2nd floor boutique, designed by Yann Debelle de Montby, to catch a glimpse of the beautiful Tahitian pearls fashioned into elegant pieces of jewelry. Three generations of the Wan dynasty flew in from Tahiti to mark this auspicious occasion: Bruno, son of Robert, granddaughter Alexandrine and grandson Richard.

The Peninsula Shanghai held their annual ‘Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Cocktail Reception. Mr. Joseph Chong, General Manager, of The Peninsula Shanghai invited the Celebrity Ambassadors Rui Chenggang(芮成鋼), who is a journalist, director and news anchor at CCTV, as well as Allan Wu(吳振天) , an actor, to switch on the Christmas tree lights together. Guests also participated in the launch of the 2011 Trees of Hope: Compassion for Migrant Children, the Library Project, Raleigh China and Make-A-wish foundation.
A silent auction was held to support the local charities. The ‘Shanghai Voices’ sang carols and Christmas songs to complete the festive mood. Tree ornaments were auctioned to raise money for three local charities, Compassion for Migrant Children, the Library Project and Raleigh China and the Make-A-wish foundation.
